Playing through these games and explanations gives real insight into the power of the pieces and how to post them most effectively.

Cherneb only downside to this book is that nearly every game ends in a tactical checkmate with many pieces still on the board. My only two complaints are that this book is outdated and it gets rather boring when in each game there must be a comment for the same previously played opening move – both which the other books have taken care of.

To right this caissic wrong, GM Nunn produced his own book, Grandmaster Chess Move By Movefrom which the quotes in the previous paragraph are drawn, and which is fifty years more up-to-date than Logical Chess.
I was so obsessed with chess from the start that I played through every game in this book at a shamefully fast pace –“shameful,” in the sense that it was indicative of a waste of life or a lack of having a life.
Such books will teach the beginner basic patterns they must consistently recognize to win the game.

Follow the Author
Chernev’s books have great instruction, and are very easy to read, while Nunn’s books can be too difficult for the average player. Grandmasters like Tal study the games of other strong players everyday.
But it’s still a fabulous classic and you can’t imagine a world in which it doesn’t exist.
